The Humane Society of Inverness is happy
to announce that Citrus County's first "spaymobile"
is in operation! It started operating on Saturday, July 22th, 2006.
We are now offering low cost spay
and neuter services for cats and dogs. We have also
been offering a number of free spay/neuter services to low
income families that qualify. Anyone who is on
public assistance or can verify that they are on a
low/fixed income, can call Margret Nolan, our president,
and ask for an application package at 352-344-5207.
Each spay/neuter will include a full package of
immunizations, a microchip and registration, in addition to
the spay/neuter. The immunizations for dogs and cats
will include a rabies immunization.
At this time, we are actively looking to engage the
services of a second veterinarian so that we can expand our
days of operation. We hope to have our spaymobile
working for a full week by the end of the year.
For regular spay/neuter packages, our fees will be $40 for
a male cat, $50 for a female cat. The package will
include the spay or neuter, a rabies immunization/certificate,
a 5 in 1 annual immunization injection and a microchip.
Lifetime registration of the microchip is included in the
cost.
Our fees for dogs will be $60 for a male dog and $70 for a
female dog. Again, our package will include the spay or
neuter, a rabies immunization/certificate, annual immunization
injections and a microchip, including lifetime registration of
the microchip.
The spaymobile will be located at the intersection of
Inverness and Smith Roads, Saturdays and Mondays.
Surgeries will be done by appointment only.
We are hoping to gain additional local sponsors in order
that we can continue offer free low income spay/neuter
programs on a regular basis, to help with local animal
overpopulation. If you would like to offer a corporate
sponsorship, please contact our president, Margret Nolan.
The Humane Society of Inverness was very active last year
in assisting animals that were displaced due to Hurricane
Katrina. Although many of these animals were reunited
with their owners and/or adopted, we still have 7 or 8
Hurricane Katrina dogs available for adoption.
The Humane Society of Inverness was formed in 2004.
Since that time, we have been responsible for rehoming more
than 1,000 animals. We are a registered charity with the
IRS and a 501 (c) (3) corporation. All donations are tax
deductible. Our organization has grown through the hard
work and efforts of a small army of volunteer workers and
foster families. We would like to thank our corporate
sponsors for supplying pet foods, pet supplies, fencing,
grooming supplies and many other items which are used for the
care of the animals.
We hope to have a hurricane proof shelter for 50 animals
ready by the end of 2006. All contributions will be
appreciated!
You can see our adoptable pets on PetFinder or on our web
page. You can contact Margret Nolan at 352-344-5207 if
you would like to volunteer.
